A serious slice of the barrio. The first time I came here it was a late, weekend evening...loud as hell and packed. It was a sea of cowboy hats and a parade of trucks zipping in and out of the lot. I was up for some noisy fun so it was a perfect fit. Fast forward to the scene in Animal House where they shout, "Wait til Otis sees us!" Bellied up to the bar by some hardcore dudes who were grim and kvlt. Staff was attentive. Margaritas were tasty. I highly recommend upgrading the tequila to Patron. I've hit this place up time and time again ...and the appeal for me is that everything and everyone here feels....sincere. This isn't some chain where they'll forget your name a few days from now. It's essentially being transported to this community within a community. The meals I've enjoyed here remind me of what my Latino friends have served me in their own homes; Food made with care that just made me feel all fuzzy inside and stuff. Meat is lean, yet tender and flavorful. The onions in their grilled dishes are ever-so-slightly caramelized ....leaving them a tad sweet. Rice is moist and compliments the proteins nicely. Burritos are KILLA...each one hand-rolled by Godzilla. True story, Bro. As Sarah H. has pointed out, they will go to great lengths to personalize anything on the menu to your liking. Nothing I've had yet has been fiery in the way of sauces. Their fresh-squeezed lemonade and killer Jamaica are favorites. A heads up: The guac here is made fresh, but it does run on the supa tart side, so when you order, you can request little "no limon". Do yourself a favor and order "Mama's Specialty" with added grilled jalapenos; it's Heaven on a platter.*swoon* The ladies here are absolute dolls. So friendly and while attentive, they don't hover. Lupe works evenings and is THEE best. I adore her!! I've noticed some of the staff here is not especially familiar with the English language and that is most likely because a majority of their customers speak Spanish. I gather this because I went specifically for Karaoke (which rocked) and it was entirely in Spanish that evening. Felt like a wedding guest with people dancing to lively tunes, women exchanging big hugs (others, hard glances..mmhmm) and tables engrossed in enthusiastic conversation with shouts to friends seated clear cross the room. If you're looking to linger while conversing over some quality food and that frozen concoction that keeps callin' Jimmy Buffett home, then swing by in the early evening. That seems like their down time when the place is nearly empty; When I want a slow-paced, quiet meal, that's the perfect time. The prices are great and I like that you can mix things up a la carte. It's really about finding what hours there work with your mood. I will never get how La Fiesta packs them in when there are treasures like this. Be sure to grab a menu on your way out. I plan on working my way through it..in its entirety... in 2013: Let's do this! Note: IF YOU ARE IN A RUSH this will NOT suit your needs. You can phone in ahead for pick-up though and free local delivery is available. They have a stone patio that is open during the warmer months. I heart you, La Finka!

Consistenty delicious food, great service and cold beer! This place was called something else before La Finka and something else before that but I've been coming for years and the food is always good. Back in the day, a guy would sale icee cups, corn, shish kabobs and other goodie off his grill.

I ordered the chilaquilles which were pretty good surprisingly but it had no lettuce garnish, tomatoe or onion.. I can let it slide because it varies from place to place.. bUT my dish came with no egg.... Chilaquilles come with eggs where ever you order them from. Anyways- my chilaquilles were warm but my rice and beans were room temperature . My husband ordered the huevos a la mexicana and besides it looking a little funny - he still tried them. He got food poisoning. I doubt I would return.

Finally dropped in to try this place out. Susan H., your review put this place on my "gotta try" list. I arrived with high expectations and left very satisfied with our meal, drinks and the service. I had the camarones a la diabla which came with rice And salad. It was delicious, a good sized portion for a VERY reasonable price. The wife ordered the pollo loco, which was a seasoned grilled chicken breast with rice, beans and a very tasty white cheese sauce. Drinks were reasonably priced and tasty. $6 for a good sized pina colada And $3 cantaritos. Next time I come to Finka I will come by a little later than 7pm.. It was empty early on, but on our way out, the bar was coming alive with patrons ready to dance the night away. I can't wait to come back on a non-lenten night so I can try one of the carne asada combo plates on the menu. I think this place could become my new favorite Mexican spot in the South burbs.

3.5!!! Food was good , the free chips and salsa was on great ! The only downfall was the WEAK ASS DRINKS !! We ordered a pitcher and by the time it was gone we were sober . No light buzz or nothing . That was a scam....but the food was great ! I would still come back , just won't order alcohol

Decent hidden Mexican spot on the East side of Blue Island. Staff has always been very friendly, but service has been a touch hit or miss. Seems like we've had a couple trainees along the way; lunch has lasted longer than usual, especially when the place fills up. Either way, the food has always been solid. Complimentary chips and salsa differ from most. The chips are more baked than fried; the salsa marries perfectly. A side of solid, well-seasoned guacamole is the perfect match to the starters. Entrees offer a plethora of solid inexpensive lunch specials served daily. I've tried a few so far, and I think the Monster Burrito takes the cake. Huge burrito packed with your choice of meat and doused in a melted white cheese sauce (see pic); impeccably priced too! Do yourself a favor...grab some friends, some drinks, your favorite Spanish-English Dictionary, and enjoy yourself some quality Mexican food.

Okay, so La Finka needs to seriously get their act together. Here was our experience the last two times we were here. Only ever two servers on, they are also the bartenders. We went on a Friday night and since they have a patio we decided to sit outside. Idk why this place doesnt learn, but they need to hire more staff. We started out with who we call "the good server" after we ordered our drinks, all of a sudden we had the "bad server". She is ridiculously slow and always gets things wrong. 2 HOURS later (mind you between four of us we had maybe 9 tacos and two margaritas each-- half of which were wrong) we finally escaped. Both of the last two times my tacos come out cold (the kitchen must not time their food prep accordingly so my tacos obviously sat around while the other food was made). Its really too bad because when the food is hot and the margaritas are right this is a great place (especially since it is two blocks away). Not bringing anyone to dine in again until they get their shit together.

Growing up around nothing but chain Tex-mex and OTB type restaurants it was so refreshing to happen to come upon this delightful Mexican restaurant. Family-owned and operated they do things just a little more customized for their customers I'd say. Instead of the basic chips and salsa-they give u a star like container with 4 small amounts of varieties of salsa Verde, chipotle, pico, and usually another I can never remember the name. If you eat A LOT of salsa like I do, you can ask for one of the specific ones in a bowl. The burritos are huge and I usually order from the ala carte and its the perfect amount of food. The Spanish rice is never dry because my husband always gobbles it up. The ladies who work in the front and as servers are always so friendly and polite. The food is very well made and authentic with just the right prices to go with it! My husband and I can't get enough. Simple, well-made, and delicious! Recently we went just for a drink and some guacamole and well I splurged and tried their Pina Colada and even my husband (who doesn't like coconut) thought it was stellar! It's location is not that cohesive for those who don't live in the area, but if you are around the Blue Island area-with few places to choose from- I say it's worth it to try out La Finka!

Food was ok. We had several dinners with our group, ordered one combination plate, one seafood combination, and enchiladas. I have had better in Pilsen and Little Village. The chips which were given to us, were served warm with Salsa, was a very good start. We requested coffee or tea, they only had tea available.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
